Ruby Rose (RWBY) - Default Outfit Tutorial

Buenas cachorritos! Hoy os traigo el paso a paso de mi cosplay de Ruby Rose (Default) de la webserie RWBY! 

Hi puppies! Today I bring you the construction notes for my Ruby Rose (Default) costume, from the webserie RWBY.

Bien, lo primero fue ir en busca de telas, y creo que ha sido el mejor diseño para el que he comprado, puesto que sólo son dos colores y fue realmente fácil buscarlas. 

Well the first thing I did was searching for the perfect fabrics, it was easy, it is a great design, cause I only needed two colors.

Estas son las telas que usé:

- Tela negra con bastante caída (No sé el nombre)

- Tul 

- Gasa 

- Punto  (La escogí por el color, pero ahora no la volvería a usar por el tema de ser elástica)

- Polipiel

- Strech

- Lazo fino y ancho

- Cordón rojo.

- Plastidecores

- Goma Eva.

- Cinta elástica

There are the things I used:

- Black fabric (I don't know the name)

- Tull Fabric

- Crepe fabric

- Knit fabric

- Leather

- Strech

- Small and big ribbon

- Cord

- Crayons

- Craft Foam

- Elastic ribbon

• Vestido & Cancán / Dress & Petitcoat

Bueno, lo primero fue ir cortando los patrones y pensar como quería hacer cada cosa. Para empezar, separé la parte de arriba y la parte de abajo del vestido, creando así una camisa y una falda.

Well, the fisrt thing was cutting the patterns ans thinking how I wanted to make everything. To start, I separeted the top and the button part of the dress to made a shirt and a skirt.

Puse la cremallera detrás para que por la parte frontal se viera la costura como la que Ruby lleva. 

I put the zipper on the back to make aon the front the seam as Ruby's.

Para la falda, hice una de capa, con la medida de largo que quería, la medida de la cintura es más grande para poder hacerla con tablas y vuelo. Antes de unirlo todo, hice las mangas para la parte de arriba, y los fruncidos rojos correspondientes.

For the skirt, I made a cape skirt as large as I wanted and the hip size was bigger than mine to gather the fabric and made it fullness. Before sewing everything, I made the sleeves for the top part, and I made the gather for the red fabric.

Hice el cuello con un trozo de tela, le puse entretela para darle rigidez y puse más fruncido rojo. Una vez esto, cosí todas las partes para formar el vestido negro de Ruby.

I did the shirt collar with a piece of fabric, I put fabric inlay to made it rigid and I sew the red gathered fabric. With all of this, I sewed the whole Ruby's dress.

Esta parte fue muy sencilla, y apenas me llevo 4 días en hacerlo, la parte más complicada y que más tiempo consumió fue el cancán. Fue la primera vez que hice uno, busqué mil tutoriales hasta que di más o menos con lo que quería. También debo decir que me costó más esta parte por que la máquina no funcionaba bien, y es que tras 3 años confeccionando trajes, no había sido engrasada, así que cosmakers, NO OLVIÉIS ENGRASAR VUESTRA MÁQUINA! 

This part was so easy, it only took me 4 days to made, the most difficult parte, and that which took too many time was the petit coat. It was my first time making a petitcoat, I searched for so many tutorials on the internet until I I knew how to made it. Also I have to say that it took me so many time because my sewing machine wasn't working correctly, 3 years making costumes and I never oiled it, so cosmakers, PLEASE, OIL YOUR SEWING MACHINES!

Para el cancán usé gasa, tul, strech, cinta elástica fina y lazo para la parte de abajo. Lo primero fue coger un trozo de strech como base, para usarlo como guía para el resto de telas, además de usarlo como forro para el cancán en sí. Después hay que ponerse con el tul, y hacer capas y capas, las de abajo más cortas que las de arriba. Os explico como hice yo el mío, que seguramente no sea la mejor manera. 

For the petitcoat I used, tull, crepe strech, slastic riboon, and ribbon for the under part. The first thing was take a piece of strech to use it as a guide for the rest of fabrics and for the petitcoat0s lining. After that, I had to work with the tull and made pieces of diferent sizes, the button ones were smaller than the top ones. I'll explain you the way I made it, probably, not the best way.

Lo primero que hice, fue hacer el fruncido en todos los metros de lazo que compré para añadirlo en la parte inferior de todas las capas que luego formarían el cancán. Después de la capa de strech, puse tres capas de gasa, luego,  dos capas de tul, dos capas de gasa, y en vez de añadir tul por todos lados, puse dos trozos de tul fruncido a cada lado de del cancán para darle volumen en los laterales. Por último añadí dos capas más de gasa. Una vez cosidas todas las capas, procedí a poner la cinturilla con las cintas elásticas, para que así en cancán fuera ajustable.

The first thing I did was making the gathered on all the ribborn meters to add it on the down part of the petitcoat capes. After the strech cap, I added 3 capes of crepe, then two capes of tull, then two pieces of gathered tull on both sides to made it fluffy, and then, two more capes of crepe fabric. Once every cape was sewed, I added the waits piece with the elastic ribborn to made the petitcoat adjustable.

Y así es como quedó totalmente terminado, para ser el primero, cumplió perfectamente su función.

And here how it looks, it was my frist petitcoat, and I'm satisfied with it.

Os dejo un video que vi para que veáis  como se hace, sobretodo, la parte de la cintura elástica.

•  Corsé / Corset

Bueno, para el corsé usé polipiel para hacer la base, y strech para hacer el forro. Lo repetí dos veces, por que bueno, era feo la primera, y la segunda vez, no me gustó, pero se me echó el tiempo encima. Pienso repetirlo en un próximo futuro. Para atarlo por detrás lleva una cremallera, que se me rompió (drama queen de las cremalleras). Y poco más, coloqué los ojetes y paré el lazo por donde debía, y listo, corsé acabado.

To make the corset I used leather for the base and strech for make the lining.m  I made this piece twice because I didn't like how it looked, but I haven't enought time to make it again, so in the near future, I will repeat it.To attached I put a zipper on the back, and it broke (I'm a zipper dramaqueen). I put the eyelets and the lace.

•  Botas / Boots

Bueno esto fue sencillo y a la vez estresante. Compré unas botas base negras, perfectas para Ruby, algo altas pero nada que unas tijeras no solucionen. Aunque tuve un momento de estrés cuando al cortar una de las botas, olvidé (sí, la vida) que la cremallera no tenía tope, y cuando subí la cremallera, esta saltó, fueron horas de lloros y de querer dejar el proyecto, oh vaya, soy una dramas. Pero al día siguiente se me pasó, fui a comprar una cremallera, y botas bonitas.

This part was easy and stressfull. I bought a perfect pair of black boots, they were a little bit taller that I wanted, but anything I could cut off.

Después del drama botil, me puse manos a la obra para perforar la bota y así poner los ojetes en su lugar. Dejé 3 cm entre ojete y ojete, puse un total de 16 ojetes por bota, divididos en 2 columnas. Una vez colocados, pasé el cordón rojo e hice un nudo en la parte interior superior. Para poner la tela roja que lleva en la parte superior, fruncí una tira roja, como hice para el cuello y las mangas.

I let 3cm between each eyelet, and I put 16 in total, dived in two columns. Then I put the red cord I I tie it on te inner top of the boot. To put the red gathered piece of fabric on the top, For the red piece of fabric on the top, I gathered it as I did for the neck and the sleeves.

Para no tener que pegarla, y pensando en el futuro, Ruby, en su traje de Slayer (VOL. 2) lleva las mismas botas pero sin la tela roja de la parte superior, así que decidí pegarle tanto a la bota como a la tela, un trozo de velcro para así poder quitarlo sin estropear la bota. 

I didn't want to stick the fabric to the boot, and thinking of the future Ruby's costume from the VOL. 2,  I decided to put a piece of velcro on the red farbic, and on the top of the boot, so I can remove the fabric without damage the boot.

Por último, hoce los dos cinturones que lleva en cada una de las botas con polipiel, añadí una hebilla que tenía por casa, y la pinté de rojo.

I made the belts for the boots of leather, I added buckles, and I painted them on red.

Y así es como quedaron (falta el cinturón), con la suela pintada de rojo también, a base de pintura para telas y látex.

Here are the boots (missing the belts), with the sole painted in red, with fabric paint and latex.

• Capa / Cape

Para la capa usé punto, simplemente por el color, ahora no lo volvería a usar, y no lo haré. Esta parte me dio bastantes problemas, por que no sabía, ni sé, como hacer la parte delantera, pero al final salió decente, simplemente me inventé el patrón mirando las referencias,. Y quedó algo así:

For hte cape I used knit fabric, I choose due to the color, now, I wouldn't use it again. This part took me a long of time cause I didn't know how to make it. 

Para las cruces que lleva en la parte delantera de la capa usé goma eva imprimada en látex y pintada con pintura en spray gris, y quedaron así:

For the crosses of the front of the cape I used craf foam with latex and spray paint.

• Accesorios / Accesories

- Bolso /Bag:

Está hecho de polipiel plateada, pero no es muy chillona, debería ser gris, pero no quedaba, así que me decanté por este color, no hice fotos de proceso, por que se me olvidó, pero bueno, tampoco era muy complicado, solo echarle horas para que quede como queréis. Para engancharlo al cinturón, le puse tres corchetes detrás para que se sujetara perfectamente.

I made of silver leather, not too shiny, it should be grey, but in the store I couldn't find that color, I didn't took pics of the process, I forgot it, after hours, I finally like how it looked. To attach it to the belt I put threes buttons on the back.

- Emblema / Emblem:

Está hecho de goma eva, y fue divertido y estresante de hacer, debo decir que me ayudaron y que sin mi Amigo Antonio no podría haberlo hecho. Imprimí el emblema con las medidas que quería, , corté el emblema y lo claqué en un trozo de goma eva. Una vez el emblema cortado en la goma eva, corté cada una de las partes con más goma eva y la fui pegando parte por parte. Por último, pequé un trozo de velcro para engancharlo en el cinturón, y evitar que se estropeada durante el transporte y quedó así.

Is made of craf foam and it was funny to made, I have to say that, without my dear friend Antonio I couldn't had made it. I Printed the emblem on paper with the size I wanted, I cut it and draw it on the foam. Once I cut the emblem on the foam, I cut each piece in a white piece of foam, and I stick every piece. I stick a piece of velcro on the bakc to attach it on the belt.

- Balas / Bullets:

Las balas son una tontería, son plastidecores pintados de gris, mágico todo!

The bullets are crayon painted of grey!

- Cinturón / Belt

El cinturón está hecho de polipiel, simple y sencillo, puse una tirita de polipiel, la cosí para que las balas pudieran ponerse bien, añadí el trozo del velcro para poner el emblema y luego los tres corchetes para enganchar el bolsito.

The full belt is made of leather, simple and easy, for attach the bullets, I sewed I piece of leather, for the emblem I stick a piece of velcro, and for the back, I put three buttons.

Y esto es todo!!!! Ha sido largo y llevo horas escribiendo, pero espero que os guste y os sea útil, tanto para Ruby como para cualquier cosa. Tengo que tomar como costumbre hacer foto de todo y hacerlas con la cámara, para que se vea bien bien!
